Progress Week 1:
During week one of the project, I started with creating a Gantt chart and breaking down the research document into what I will be doing for the next 3 weeks. As it is week one I said that I would create my initial ideas, complete the contextual for the theme and the type that was creating and make a Gantt chart. I completed all of this by the end of the week. The Gantt chart was the easiest as I have done this process in all of my previous projects and understand how long it will usually take for each stage of the project. As I wanted my ideas to be fresh and be my true initial ideas I decided on 3 projects that incorporate the name Dave and involve my career pathway which is developing. I didn’t expand on them yet however I did have the basics down from the name, type of product and what the company is. I will further expand on these ideas in week 2 as stated in my breakdown.
To understand the project better I did the contextual research for the theme which is Dave and then went into the types of products I ideally want to produce which is an app so I can show variety in my work. For the theme i used history to understand the meaning of the name better and used celebrities to understand what is associated with the name. As I want to create an app I went into detail on the three types of apps I can create and chose web apps as that fits my skill set the most.
During week 2 I completed the competitive research, contextual research for most viable project, created a feedback questionnaire and chose the project that I will do in the final major project. From what I have learnt from the contextual research I started with conducting the competitive research and looked into the market for each idea and decided if it was needed and explained why it was or why it wasn’t. I used 2 competitive examples to research and used web stats to discover the statistics of each website and the audience they are bringing in. From this, I decided on creating an eLearning app for my final product as the other options weren’t needed in my opinion and there were no space in the market for them. As I now have my chosen product, I did some more contextual research on what will be needed for the app and this furthered my understanding of what I will create. As I had a more rounded off idea, I wanted target audience feedback so I created a questionnaire explaining the app and asking users if they would use it and what improvements I could make. This will help me in preproduction and the build sections as I can reference this in why I made certain decisions. I haven’t expanded on the feedback in my research portfolio as I want more responses for more fair feedback.
Next week I will finish off the research portfolio and expand on my feedback as I will have more responses and as my ideas will be validated I will complete my project proposal and start my preproduction as stated in my gantt chart.
